How do we choose the right cupboards for our kitchens?

Small cupboards, tall cupboards, euro height larders, corner units, pantry larders… There are so many types of cabinets that you can have in your kitchen that even for an experienced designer such as me it seems overwhelming. I can create the maximum functionality for your kitchen, while keeping a very beautiful look, but there are so many combinations possible that even when I finish a project, I still think about the multiple possibilities that could have gone in that kitchen.

With the passing of time, we tend to notice that our living space becomes smaller, and that we have to say goodbye to storage cupboards in our bathroom; no more armchairs in the living room, a sofa does the trick now. But what is a kitchen without kitchen cupboards, that is simply not possible.

Now that we have established that there is no way we can have  a kitchen without kitchen cupboards, how are we going to design it? The combination of colours and materials is equally important as the storage space. The easiest solution is to go for white, but since I know you are more interesting than that, I challenge you to be more courageous and explore more possibilities.

If you still want all white, but are afraid of the stigma of being dull, have a look at the picture above. By combining some interesting elements in this kitchen, such as a white Carrara worktop, a equal pattern glass splashback, gold handles and brass tap, we gave this high quality kitchen an interesting look.

I would not recommend having dark wood patterned doors for your kitchen if the area is very small, as this will tend to make the space look smaller than it actually is. Bright colours can work magic for a room with reduced space, and for the contrast, you can go with dark colour worktops or interesting patterns on whatever you decide to have on the wall (glass, laminate or tiles).

In terms of having many larders, or wall units to the ceiling, you can always book a design meeting with us, and we can show you in a 3D rendering how your ideas become reality.
